About Our Ratings

Content Quality: Content quality refers to clarity and sharpness of pics or videos. Things we take a point or two off for include blurring, over-sharpening, poor lighting, being out of focus, artifacting (little squares and other stuff appearing in the video or pic) and over-lighting. If a site's videos or pics are way out of aspect ratio, that may also lower their quality rating.

Content Quantity: This refers to how much content is in a site. We don't count bonus sites or content for the quantity rating - only a site's core content. To a degree, this rating may depend on what category a site is. Some categories have few or no sites, so we might bump this up a point. Multi-site passes may be scored on amount of total content and total number of sites included.

Updates: Something we all want to know about a site is how often it updates. A site that updates once a week with a full video and pics will get either a 3 or a 3.5 depending on whether the videos are long or short and perhaps whether the pics are vidcaps or photos. Sites that update less frequently will get a 2 or 2.5, sites that update but not all that often will get a 1 and sites that update daily will get a 5.

Honesty: Sometimes this one is hard to score, but sometimes it's pretty easy. A site with a tour that tells us honestly and completely about their member area content, and with a member area that doesn't mislead will get a good honesty rating. Sites that try and hide things or mislead will get a lower honesty rating. Consider an average site will be a 3 for honesty.

Presentation: Does the site look good? Is it easy to use and fully functional with all the features you'd expect and enough graphics to make it as attractive as the tour? Then it will get a 4 or 5 for presentation. Does the member arealook generic, have advertising that looks like content or links that get in the way or is it difficult to figure out how to use certain features? Then that will get a lower score - a 2 or a 1.

Overall: While our overall rating is based on the average of all the other ratings, we often will give half a point for a site that we found extremely good, extremely likeable or with some other feature that isn't really covered by a rating but we feel should be considered. If a site has likeability issues, like videos and pic sets where no one seems to move, we might take half a point away.
